The legal work involved in dealing with a Faculty application incurs a legal charge which is rendered in accordance with the Ecclesiastical Judges, Legal Officers and Others (Fees) Order currently in force.
In the case of Faculty applications made by parishes, the Diocesan Board of Finance will often pay the relevant fees, but in other cases (including exhumation petitions, gravespace reservation applications, certain memorial petitions, applications made by a third party and other similar matters) then the relevant Faculty fee will fall to you for payment.
Faculty fee as at 1 January 2024 is £327.40.
Further information as to the fees payable can be obtained from the Diocesan Registry Clerk Michelle Wilmot.
Please note that it is possible that further costs may be incurred if the Registrar and/or Chancellor have to undertake significant additional work in relation to a particular Faculty application. This may be the case if, for example, the application becomes particularly complicated, if objections are received, if the matter becomes contentious or if there has to be a Hearing. This list of examples is not intended to be exhaustive.
The full schedule of fees payable to the Chancellor and/or the Diocesan Registrar are set out in the current version of the Ecclesiastical Judges, Legal Officers and Others (Fees) Order.
